From Now On Everything Will Be Different

Eliza Vitri Handayani, indonesisk forfatter bosatt i Norge, lanserer sin bok From Now On Everything Will Be Different (Vagabond Press, 2015) på Eldorado Bokhandel i Oslo fredag 25. september kl. 17.00.

Elizas roman vil selges for 180 kroner.

“The protagonists are complicated and full of life, a boy and a girl becoming a man and a woman, and struggling to do it with as much honesty as they can. This novel is about what it is like to come of age at the end of a revolution.” —Ruby J. Murray

“Handayani represents a new dawn of the Indonesian novel.” —Manneke Budiman

“A finely choreographed love story that shadows the larger changes and challenges of life in contemporary Indonesia. It charts the fever and the friction of a relationship, exploring conflicted identities in a complex world, where social pressures push against emerging independence and new freedoms. Sharply designed, intoxicating, reverberant.” —Nicholas Jose

A short description:
Drawing parallels between Indonesia’s struggle towards democracy and her characters’ efforts to realize their artistic dreams, Eliza has written a book about defining oneself and breaking free from social expectations, sexual repression, and the pattern of repeated disappointments.

In addition to my reading parts of the book will be read in Indonesian and English. Even Tømte and Tone Wasbak Melbye are responsible for musical interludes.
