Å dra og aldri vende tilbake

The indie band Englestøv (Angel Dust) had a release concert the 29th of November for the project «Å dra og aldri vende tilbake» (To leave and never to return), a story told through two mediums, an album and a novel. A story of two people who find each other and lose themselves. The novel sees their relationship through the eyes of the man Glør, while the song texts are sung by the woman Oda. For this concert I was asked by author and composer Halvor Strand to tell excerpts from the novel in between the songs, and I enthusiastically agreed. «Å dra og aldri vende tilbake» is a wholly formed and immensely beautiful project, and I hope that the future of this band will be a bright one.

You can buy the book here. In the book there’s a download code (camouflaged as Glør’s Facebook password) which you can use to download the album. Highly recommended.

I’m also taking the liberty of showcasing some of the songs here:

Jeg så henne inn i øynene. Men ikke for lenge. Jeg så noe der inne som jeg ikke ventet å se.
Som jeg aldri hadde ventet å se. (I looked into her eyes. But not for too long. I saw something there that I didn’t expect to see. That I’d never expected to see.)

Jeg glemmer helt å være meg selv. Jeg er bare glad. Jeg bare smiler.
Jeg er ikke nøyaktig den jeg vil være, men jeg er med den jeg vil være med. (I completely forget to be myself. I’m just happy. I’m just smiling. I’m not exactly the person I want to be, but I’m with the person I want to be with.)

Jeg blottla meg og la arkene mine imellom oss, og nå føles det som om Oda har klusset så mye på dem at det ikke er plass til noe mer der.
At det ikke er plass til meg.(I exposed myself completely, putting all my stencils between us. And now it feels like Oda has scribbled so much on them that there’s no more room. That there’s no more room for me.
